So I have a Facebook page. Why, because I wanted to read something about Barack Obama and I had to join so I could read it And there the thing sat. I forgot about it.
and lo and behold..
A friend of mine that I chat with a few times a year found me, and then a friend from LJ found me (Hi Tigger) and then my husband went on and then members of his family went on and then my dad went on and jeesh now people are coming out of the wood work. And I really don't use it and, guess what, I don't want to be found.
So here I am with a Facebook page and I guess now I have to maintain the damn thing because people are popping out of nowhere and I'm not sure I'm happy about it.
Really, people from high school......who will ask me to friend them next? It's kinda scary.

In short: Sorority that includes diverse members and brainy girls that love science is decimated by national leadership that is looking for skinny, pretty girls that attract frat boys and other plastic women. Of the 35 sorority members they cut loose 23 (the disabled, people of color and those that don't fit in a size 2) and tell them to move out of the house. Of the 12 remaining, 6 leave in solidarity with their sisters. Good for them. Blowback ensues and national leadership blames the ousted girls for not recruiting enough members and thus causing the ousting.......Revenge of the Nerds meets Mean Girls.
It all happened at DePauw University...Delta Zeta sorority.
And I ask, what are people thinking when they do this stuff? Do they think they're being noble? This is a university for god's sake. Its about learning, its about becoming an adult and making the right choices in life. Isn't it? I guess for the national leadership of Delta Zeta its all about looking good and getting that MRS degree. Amazing in 2007.

I was not sad to say goodbye to 2006. My daughter and I lit peace dove luminaries last nite, a little ritual for hope.
Out of curiosity I scrolled back thru my journal entries to see what things I was nattering about:
Dr. Who
Veronica Mars
Life on Mars
The Office (both British and US)
BSG
Dexter
Heroes
Lost
Various films and BBC productions
There were a few parenting posts.
But what surprised me were the quantity of political posts. I had no idea. My overwhelming interest on LiveJournal is media. I love reading people's thoughts about whatever show I'm currently obsessing over. But, damn, did my political frustrations bleed into my journal this year.
An aside: I forgot that I had noted on March 21st that the political winds were shifting...not bad fortune telling.
So, hello 2007. I have great hopes for you.
ETA: This is a great list of 20 outstanding people of 2006. A mix of the political, sports, media (Dexter made the list) http://brilliantatbreakfast.blogspot.co m/2007/01/brilliant-20-of-2006.html
